Itt az ú.n. ekvirektanguláris projekciót használva dolgoztak ki olyan algoritmust, amellyel bizonyos optimalizációs feladatok elvégezhetők.
Ezzel a módszerrel alátámasztották azt is, hogy a leghosszabb hajózható egyenes vonal egy Szibéria-Pakisztán hajóútvonal lenne.
